As a team of industry professionals we at TURTLE enable seafarers to run a fair and self-determined recruitment process and offer reputable shipping companies direct hiring possibilities to global verified seafarers. Our job marketplace connects shipping companies and seafarers directly, based on a special match algorithm - on an equal footing and as partners.

TURTLE works transparently and is compliant with MLC 2006 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. The company was established in 2022 by Isabelle Rickmers in Hamburg, Germany. A second location is in Gdynia, Poland.

TURTLE’s marketplace is constantly growing: Around 180,000 seafarers are registered on our platform and we are happy to have 40 shipping companies on board.

ISWAN is an international maritime charity working to improve the lives of seafarers and their families with services, resources, strategies and advocacy. ISWAN operates SeafarerHelp – the number one free, confidential, 24/7/365, multilingual helpline providing help and support to seafarers and their families around the world.

TURTLE became a member of ISWAN because we are on a similar mission aiming to change seafarers’ life for the better. Joining forces can increase awareness of ISWAN and TURTLE and help seafarers navigate through their careers having their welfare in mind.

    Willem Dekker

    Over the last 25 years Willem held various managerial positions in the shipping industry. He started his career at P&O Nedlloyd in Rotterdam, later moved to Hamburg where over a period of 15 years he held various senior positions within the E.R. Group. His in-depth industry knowledge covers shipmanagement, procurement, chartering and sale & purchase.

    Andrej Henkler

    Andrej started his career as right hand of the CEO of the Bertelsmann Group followed by co-leading the turnaround management of the German broadcasting network VOX. After quitting the corporate world, he became a serial entrepreneur: in the last 15 years Andrej invested in over 100 early-stage start-ups predominantly in the US and Europe making him an early backer of Palantir, Zipline, Qualia and the likes.

    Andreas has six years of consulting experience at the Boston Consulting Group in Munich and Chicago. He has been a member of executive boards (CEO/CFO) in listed companies for over ten years, runs his own consulting business and gained extensive experience among others in the financial services, shipping and media industries.

    Joshua Politis

    Joshua brings nearly 20 years of international experience with a proven track record within the maritime and offshore energy industries in general management, commercial management, business & corporate development, and operations. He is currently Deputy Managing Partner at Transport Capital where he shares overall responsibility for the strategy and performance of the Group, as well as leading the firm’s venture capital and maritime decarbonisation activities.

    Christoph is CEO & Founder of Borealis Maritime, a maritime investment and ship management company based in London. Borealis is linking institutional capital to the global shipping markets. Christoph brings nearly 25 years of experience in the shipping industry and Borealis is the third company he founded, including an internet start-up in 1999. Prior to Borealis, Christoph was Managing Director of Allocean, a UK and Singapore based diversified shipping group.
